The building was transformed from Raffles Museum and Library to the National Museum of Singapore. The Raffles
Museum and Library were established in 1874. This museum consists of “exhibition of colonial products”, an initiative
launched in different colonies across the British Empire, in connection to the Exhibition Building in South Kensington,

The National Museum of Singapore was officially opened in 1887. However, in 1887 to 2006, the museum was known as

Singapore life where it all begins to the modern days. Back from 1299 to the present. There is total of 4 different phases in
Singapore life. At the same level of the Singapore History Gallery, there are also Gallery 10. “Life in Singapore: The past 100
years” is the overview of 4 different exhibition. This exhibition are also the main galleries to National Museum of Singapore.
The exhibitions are Surviving Syonan, Modern Colony, Growing Up and Voices of Singapore. An addition to these exhibitions
that are located at level 2, there is also Goh Seng Choo Gallery: Magic and Menace, Glass Rotunda, Singapore, Very Old Tree
and Wing of Rich Manoeuvre.

There are 4 key events that are celebrated annually, A Taste of Heritage, Children's Season, National Day Open House and
Singapore Night Festival. Currently, the National Museum of Singapore offers 4 different programmes that are available.
Programmes that are offered are Singapore Rhapsodies at National Museum, Family Fun at the National Museum, In An
Instant: Polaroid at the Intersection of Art and Technologies and A Lighter Side of History - Eurasian Christmas. All these are
held in National Museum with their own timeline such as the Singapore Rhapsodies at National Museum begin 19 January
2018 to 31 July 2019. Similarly, the pricing for these programmes varies from free admission to 35 Singapore Dollars.
The National Museum of Singapore has an admission fee for a certain market or a certain programmes or exhibition. They
use variable pricing to maintain the expenses for the maintenance of the museum. Majority of the exhibitions, especially
the permanent galleries, are free admissions for Singaporean and Permanent Residence. They believe that free admissions

National Museum of Singapore promotes itself by having programmes dedicated to certain markets, such as family programme. The family programme offered by the National Museum of Singapore is called ‘Family Fun at the National Museum’. This event mainly targeted to families with children. There are various programmes in this category of programme such as ‘Grandparents Day’, ‘Holiday Adventures’, ‘Memories Through the Lenses by HCA Hospice Care, Young Caregivers (yCG) Programme’ and many more. Through this programmes, people with the intention to attend this event will tend to invite other families to attend too, thus the word of mouth is spread.
Apart from word of mouth, they market the mobile applications to the people when they visit the museum. The mobile application are being shared through the National Museum of Singapore website and also mentioned by the front-desk employee when visitors are collecting their stickers for the admission.
